+ One of our friends is going to see Dongwan in Hedwig, and we have come up with a last-minute photobook project that she can hopefully hand to him when she goes.  How last-minute?  Well, we have less than a week. =X It’s hopefully a simple project, but if we don’t get enough in time or if ends up that we ourselves are too busy to finish it, we will save it for a future date (perhaps his birthday combined with a larger project).  Interested? Read on.

Name:  Deng Voyage! (a play on “Bon Voyage”)
What to send in:
- A picture of a place that you think Dongwan should visit in your country or that you have gone in your travels.  It could be a picture that you’ve taken of the place (even better if you’re in it!) or of you holding a picture of the place.  We are also open to pictures that you’ve found on the internet, but obviously we would prefer that it be more personal.  Please only send hi-res photos (basically, the higher the resolution, the better).
Note: It’d be great if the place you pick is somewhere that’s non-typical. For example, when one goes to Paris, EVERYONE sees the Eiffel Tower.  Your place certainly can be a famous touristy place, but use your imagination a bit too.  Maybe you want to suggest an amazing place to eat that not a lot of people might know about or maybe even an activity that Dongwan might find different and fun.  Remember Dongwan likes nature, places to take great photos, trying new food, and skiing and biking.
- 55-60 words MAXIMUM in English of a description of the place, why Dongwan should visit it, a message of support, or whatever you want.  We know that’s not a lot of words.  But for them to fit in the photobook and since it’s going to be translated into Korean, we can’t afford to be wordy.  The idea is that the photo will be enough to interest him.  Please include the name and country of the place and the name you want shown at the end (doesn’t have to be your real name).  It’ll look like this:
Machu Picchu, Peru                               55-60 word message –Mary
Note: Depending on how much we can fit in, we might also be able to include the city of the place and YOUR country (Mary from Peru).  You can send this info in, however, we might have to cut it.  Also, if English is not your native language, your piece will most likely get edited for grammar or spelling.
By when: Sunday, September 7th, 6 p.m. PST (here’s a link to determine when that is in your time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html)
How: E-mail kdwtumblr@gmail.com with your attached photo, the text in the body of the message, and “Deng Voyage submission’ in the subject.  If you don’t follow this, we will disregard your email.
If you are thinking of suggesting an Asian place: While we are grateful for any submission we get, we are hoping to have a variety of submissions for all sorts of countries.  So for now, for those of you thinking of suggesting an Asian place, please e-mail us at kdwtumblr@gmail.com by Friday, September 5th, 6 p.m. PST (but the sooner, the better), with an INTEREST e-mail first (write “Deng Voyage Interest” in the subject line).  It’ll be first come, first serve, and that will also include first come from one country.  For example, if someone e-mails us at 1 p.m. wanting to do Singapore and then another fan e-mails us at 2 p.m. wanting the same, the 1 p.m. fan gets first dibs.  However, we are open to having 2 from one country, so in this interest e-mail, list a couple of places that you have pictures of and we will send you an e-mail back with which one we would like you to do.  Please also indicate in the e-mail that if you don’t get dibs, if you’d be willing to wait until after the September 5th interest deadline to hear from us to see if we might need yours and can send it in by the final September 7th deadline.  Please check our twitter (https://twitter.com/kimdongwan_is) and tumblr for the google doc we will update that will show which countries we are no longer accepting submissions for.
Hope you can be part of our first project! And please help spread the word!

The song he’s singing is Yoo Jae Ha’s “Because I Love You” (click here to listen to the original with Eng subs). The shirt he’s wearing was a fangift.

"Kim Dongwan seems like a person who is fun and has his own distinct color. Since he doesn’t currently have an agency, he says he manages his personal schedule by himself and his road manager is a friend who did public service with him. During the photoshoot, he volunteered that it would be good to show the scar from when he broke his collarbone, and took off his top. However, once he saw the photo, he said that he must’ve thought wrong and asked that the photo not be used. (laughs)"

— Bae Kyunghee, the interviewer for the piece on Dongwan’s Hedwig return in the September 2014 issue of The Musical

[The Musical, September 2014] “The man who is off the road, Hedwig’s Kim Dongwan

Having returned to the judgment stage known as Hedwig, Kim Dongwan says that he has now completely fallen under the spell of the character known as Hedwig.  He says that now he likes “Wig in a Box” and Tommy’s “Wicked Little Town,” more than before, that they are songs that calmly recite Hedwig’s sadness and defend this woman’s struggles.

TN: I was actually going to wait to translate this after we got better scans and also after I got through all the other 2011 interviews for Hedwig Rewind, but the interview was just too wonderful to wait.  And while I didn’t plan for it to work out this way, it seems kind of appropriate to read this after I just before posted his 2011 interview from the same magazine with the same interviewer.  It’s long, but in my opinion, you will come out of it with a deeper impression of Kim Dongwan.
