+ [14.09.15] Shinhwa Company Changes Name to ‘ShinCom Entertainment’ to Prevent Trademark Problems
With the ongoing trademark lawsuit with Jun Media, Shinhwa Company, which houses Shinhwa, officially changed its name to ShinCom Entertainment. On August 29, Shinhwa Company officially changed its company name to ShinCom Entertainment, as it continues its ongoing lawsuit with Jun Media (previously Open World Entertainment) regarding trademark rights, contract termination, and unpaid concert profits.
After receiving the trademark rights to ′Shinhwa′ from SM Entertainment, Jun Media currently holds the limited rights to the albums and songs that use the trademark Shinhwa in Korea. Regarding the lawsuit of trademark rights and contract termination, ShinCom Entertainment has won some but also lost some, sending in an appeal last August. In order to prevent even the smallest problem with the ongoing lawsuit, ShinCom Entertainment has refrained from using the trademark in albums, only using a logo and erasing the name ′Shinhwa′ in the 11th album jacket in 2013 with plans to continue this method. ShinCom Entertainment decided to change its company name to prevent issues of trademark beforehand with the company name ′Shinhwa Company′ that is usually marked on album registration and jacket.
On September 15, ShinCom Entertainment stated, “We wanted to prevent any kind of problems that could arise during the ongoing lawsuit with Jun Media and was obliged to change Shinhwa Company to ShinCom Entertainment.” "We think of ′Shinhwa′ is a name that the six members of Shinhwa and fans have protected together in the past 16 years, not a trademark. Shincom Entertainment will do its best to protect the name Shinhwa. Please continue watching over us."
